A dwarf plant with exceptional yield. The deep red fruits reach maturity about 70 days after planting; they are large and have a distinct tomato flavor. It produces very well even in colder climates. The variety was developed by Albert F. Yeager at an experimental station in North Dakota. It was released in 1929, and Oscar H. Will & Company featured it in its 1931 catalog.

Bison was developed with the short growing season in mind, during which late-season tomatoes often failed to ripen. Its history, therefore, is a story of adapting the garden to a harsher climate. It is a determinate variety with a compact growth habit.
