Lutescent Long Red is characterized by the leaves gradually turning yellow starting from the bottom of the plant as they age. This is a distinctive characteristic of the variety. Before ripening, the fruits are very light in color, almost white; they then take on yellowish hues before finally turning red.
In our description, the round, juicy, and aromatic fruits weigh 110–300 g. They tolerate transport and storage well. This tall plant with regular leaves requires staking; it is a late-season variety.
Victory Seed Company received the seeds in 2005 from Craig LeHoullier, who had previously obtained them from the Canadian collector Clay Foard. A similar effect of light-colored leaves and color-changing fruit can be observed in “Livingston’s Honor Bright,” but these are separately maintained varieties.
