Monomakh’s Hat, also known as Shapka Monomakha, comes from Siberia and was bred for the harsh, cold climate, making it an ideal choice for growing in the northern regions. The variety’s name refers to the crown worn by the Russian tsars. It is a semi-determinate variety, whose fruits are heart-shaped, intensely pink-red and very fleshy. They can weigh from 300 g to even 900 g, although the average weight is around 500 g.
Monomakh’s Hat is characterized by excellent yield, and its fruits ripen after about 70-75 days from planting. The flesh is juicy, sweet, with a well-balanced acidity, which makes this variety ideal for both raw consumption and preserves.
Its resistance to colder climates makes it perfect for places with colder summers, such as northern Europe.
