A determinate and very early variety—the fruits reach maturity about 55 days after transplanting. The red fruits are well-shaped and large—weighing up to 250–300 grams—yet they have thin skin and few seeds. They have a good, delicate, yet slightly spicy flavor. This variety was developed by Dr. James Baggett of Oregon State University and released in 1994.
Siletz is capable of setting fruit parthenocarpically, meaning without fertilization. Therefore, the first ripe tomatoes often contain very few seeds or none at all. This trait helps ensure an early harvest in cooler conditions.
