A very productive variety originating in France. The large, uniform fruits grow up to 10 cm in diameter, can weigh as much as 1 kilogram, and have a fantastic flavor. The fruit is red, beefsteak-type, with thin skin. A late-season variety, it begins bearing fruit about 80 days after transplanting. One of our favorite varieties!
It is also found in collections under the spelling “Cuostralee.” In 1992, Norbert Parreira brought its seeds from France, and a group of collectors associated with Craig LeHoullier and Carolyn Male helped popularize it. That’s how this French beefsteak tomato made its way into the international seed exchange.
