The most famous of all Brandywine varieties—and the tastiest. The large fruits, weighing 400–600 g and even up to 800 g, are dark pink in color, extremely fleshy, and contain few seeds. They are characterized by an exquisite flavor and aroma (that true tomato scent). The fruit is slightly ridged near the stem, and even when very ripe, these ridges may remain slightly green. It grows well in a polytunnel and in open ground; it is a tall-growing variety, taking over 80 days from transplanting.
The name honors the Sudduth family. Dorris Sudduth Hill gave the seeds to collector Ben Quisenberry, recounting their family’s long history of growing them. Thanks to this seed exchange, this Brandywine line has found its way into gardens far beyond her hometown.
