The dark, relatively small fruits (up to 100 grams) are very fleshy and have an excellent flavor. It is not a completely black tomato—like Indigo-type tomatoes—but it has distinctly dark, chocolate-brown hues. The fruits grow in clusters of 4–5 and reach maturity about 75 days after being planted in the ground.
Adaptive Seeds received the seeds from John Miller of the Old Schoolhouse Plantery in Vermont. This tomato also owes its place in catalogs to exchanges among gardeners and nursery owners who recognized something worth preserving in it.
