A very rare oxheart tomato variety. The fruits are large, weighing up to half a kilogram. The heart-shaped fruits are dark in color, with distinct stripes, and have a very intense flavor and aroma. The plant is tall, with a slender stem and delicate leaves. A late-season variety; the fruits ripen about 85 days after planting. It requires staking or tying up.
This variety is associated with the work of Brad Gates from California. It is distinguished by the combination of a fleshy heart and a striped skin. For a comparison of this color pattern on flatter fruits, see Berkeley Tie-Dye Pink.
