A thin, slightly yellowish skin covers pure white, very fleshy, sweet, and exceptionally aromatic flesh. The fruits are large to very large, weighing 400–900 g. The plant bears fruit abundantly until the first frost. It looks wonderful in multicolored tomato salads, adding a touch of white. As a tall-growing tomato, it requires staking.
In an interview with Craig LeHoullier, George Gleckler recalled that among the seeds of orange and yellow heart-shaped tomatoes he received in the late 1980s, a plant with white beefsteak-type fruits grew. Great White is derived from this discovery. It has not been determined whether it was the result of a cross or a mutation.
