Blossom-end rot (BER)

Also known as: blossom-end rotblack bottomBER

Blossom-end rot is a non-contagious physiological disorder characterized by a dark, sunken spot at the blossom end of the fruit, on the side opposite the stem. Contrary to popular belief, it is most often not caused by a lack of calcium in the soil, but rather by impaired calcium transport to developing fruits. The most important preventive measure is maintaining stable soil moisture and a healthy root system.
