Fruit

The tomato fruit develops from the ovary of the flower and, from a botanical standpoint, is a berry. Its development usually begins after pollination and fertilization, but parthenocarpic fruits can form without fertilization. The fruit consists of skin, flesh, seed chambers, and seeds. Its size, shape, color, and flavor depend primarily on the variety and growing conditions.
