Parthenocarpy
Also known as: fruit set without fertilization
Parthenocarpy is a plant’s ability to produce fruit without fertilization. Such fruits contain few seeds or are completely seedless. This phenomenon occurs naturally in some varieties, but it can also be induced by environmental conditions or growth regulators. In tomato cultivation, parthenocarpy is most important during cold spells or when pollination is problematic.
