Pollination
Pollination involves the transfer of pollen to the stigma of the pistil. In tomatoes, self-pollination is most common; however, vibrations caused by the wind or bumblebees can increase the effectiveness of this process. Proper pollination allows for pollen germination, fertilization, and seed development, but it does not in itself guarantee fruit set. Parthenocarpic fruits can form without fertilization. In a closed, stagnant environment, it is advisable to ventilate the cover and gently shake the open clusters.
