Bacterial canker of the tomato

Bacterial canker of the tomato is a serious disease caused by the bacterium Clavibacter michiganensis. Symptoms may include one-sided wilting of leaves, browning of the vascular bundles, longitudinal cracks or cankers on the stems, and light-colored spots with dark centers on the fruit. The pathogen can be introduced via infected seeds or seedlings and is easily spread during cultivation via hands, tools, and water. The basis of control is healthy seed, strict hygiene, and the prompt removal of suspect plants; it is advisable to confirm the diagnosis.
