TMV (tobacco mosaic virus)

The tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) is one of the best-studied plant viruses. It causes mosaic-like discoloration of leaves, deformities, and stunted growth. It is exceptionally persistent and can remain infectious for a long time on tools, clothing, or plant debris. Infection occurs mainly through mechanical transmission. Suspected plants should be isolated or removed, and hands, tools, and surfaces should be cleaned before coming into contact with healthy tomatoes.
