Mulching

Also known as: mulching

Mulching involves covering the soil surface with organic or inorganic material. It reduces water evaporation, weed growth, and fluctuations in soil temperature. Additionally, it minimizes the splashing of soil particles onto leaves during watering or rainfall, thereby reducing the risk of many diseases. Materials used for mulching include straw, bark, compost, nonwoven fabric, and black plastic sheeting.
