Well-drained soil

Well-drained soil allows excess water to drain freely and ensures adequate air access for the roots. This reduces the risk of root rot and the development of soil-borne diseases. Soils that are too light dry out more quickly, while those that are too heavy are prone to waterlogging. The ideal soil for tomatoes combines good drainage with a high water-holding capacity. If water pools on the soil for a long time after rain, it’s better to gradually improve it with organic matter or to grow tomatoes in a raised bed.
