Roots
Roots are responsible for absorbing water and nutrients and anchoring the plant in the soil. A healthy root system is the foundation for vigorous growth and high yields. Tomatoes tolerate prolonged waterlogging of the roots and heavily compacted soil very poorly. The better developed the roots are, the easier it is for the plant to cope with periodic water shortages. Provide them with well-draining soil, drainage holes in the container, and sufficient space, and avoid compacting wet soil.
