Turgor

Turgor is the pressure exerted by water on the walls of plant cells. It is responsible for the firmness of leaves, stems, and other tissues. Loss of turgor leads to wilting and is one of the first symptoms of water balance disorders. Once an adequate amount of water is restored, healthy cells usually quickly regain normal turgor. Before watering a wilted plant, check the soil, as a loss of turgor in wet soil may indicate root damage or problems with water conduction.
