Loss of turgor

Loss of turgor refers to a drop in pressure within plant cells caused by a lack of water or a disruption in water transport. It manifests as wilting of the leaves and young shoots. If the cause is simply drought, the plant usually quickly regains its normal firmness after watering. Before watering, check the soil, because wilting in wet soil may indicate a problem with the roots or the vascular tissue.
