Shoot elongation

Elongation is the process by which cells lengthen, leading to shoot growth. In tomato seedlings, excessive elongation is most often the result of a lack of light or excessively high temperatures. The plants become thin, spindly, and less resistant to damage. Adequate lighting and maintaining the proper temperature effectively limit the stretching of the seedlings.
