Planting

Planting involves transferring seedlings to their permanent location—whether in the ground, a tunnel, a greenhouse, or a container. Tomatoes are best planted after the risk of frost has passed, when the soil temperature reaches at least about 12–14°C. The plants can be planted slightly deeper than they were in the pot, as the stem easily produces adventitious roots. After planting, it’s a good idea to water the plants generously and minimize their stress for a few days.
