Mycorrhiza

Mycorrhiza is a symbiotic relationship between plant roots and soil fungi. The fungal hyphae increase the absorptive surface area of the roots and improve the uptake of water and nutrients, particularly phosphorus. In return, the fungi receive sugars from the plants that are produced during photosynthesis. A well-functioning mycorrhizal system increases tomatoes’ resistance to periodic water shortages and environmental stress.
