Meristem

Also known as: creative community

A meristem is a generative tissue composed of rapidly dividing cells. It is responsible for the growth of roots, stems, leaves, and all new plant organs. The most important meristems are located at the tips of shoots and roots. Damage to the apical meristem leads to the inhibition of the main shoot’s growth and stimulates the development of lateral shoots.
