Calcium (Ca)

Calcium is one of the most important macronutrients in tomato nutrition. It is responsible for cell wall formation, tissue firmness, proper root development, and the growth of the plant’s youngest parts. Unlike many other nutrients, it is hardly transported from the leaves to the fruit; therefore, a steady supply of calcium along with water is essential throughout the growing season. The most common cause of problems is not a lack of calcium in the soil, but impaired uptake caused by irregular watering or root damage. If a deficiency is suspected, you should first stabilize the watering schedule and check the condition of the roots, the pH, and the nutrient levels in the growing medium, rather than immediately increasing the calcium dose.
