Water Infiltration

Also known as: water absorption

Infiltration refers to the process by which water seeps into the soil. The rate of infiltration determines how much water reaches the root system and how much runs off the surface. Good soil structure and a high humus content improve infiltration and reduce the risk of waterlogging or drying out the roots. If water runs off or pools on the surface for a long time, water more slowly and improve the soil structure with compost, avoiding working the soil when it is wet.
