Vertex dominance

Apical dominance is a phenomenon in which the main shoot inhibits the growth of lateral shoots through plant hormones, primarily auxins. After the apical meristem is removed, lateral shoots begin to grow much more vigorously. This phenomenon is utilized in plant training.
