Variety stabilization is a multigenerational process aimed at increasing a variety’s uniformity and genetic stability. It involves controlled propagation, selecting plants with desired traits, and verifying that these traits are consistently expressed in the offspring. The plant’s appearance alone is not sufficient, as it may also result from environmental conditions. The duration of the stabilization process depends on the starting material, the selected traits, and the breeding method used. It is necessary to label the plants, keep records, and, over successive generations, maintain separate lines of nasiona from selected healthy specimens that best meet the established objective.
