Virus vectors

Virus vectors are organisms that transmit viruses between plants. In tomato cultivation, aphids, thrips, and whiteflies are important vectors. The effectiveness of controlling their populations depends on the mode of transmission, as some insects can infect a plant before they are controlled. Control measures should combine the use of healthy seedlings, removal of virus sources and host plants, monitoring and vector control, as well as barriers and resistant varieties when available.
