Resistant varieties

Resistant varieties possess genetic traits that limit infection or the multiplication of a specific pathogen compared to susceptible varieties. Resistance applies to the specified pathogen—and often to its race as well—and does not imply complete immunity. Tolerance is a different trait: it reduces losses caused by infection but does not necessarily limit the amount of the pathogen. Even resistant varieties require proper care and preventive measures.
