Tolerance

Tolerance refers to a plant’s ability to function normally despite the presence of an adverse factor, such as disease, drought, or high temperatures. A tolerant plant may become infected, but the symptoms are usually milder than in susceptible varieties. Tolerance should not be confused with resistance. When selecting a variety, it is important to verify exactly which factor the tolerance applies to and not to neglect preventive measures.
