Haploids

Haploids are plants with a single set of chromosomes. In plant breeding, they serve as the starting material for producing doubled haploids after doubling the number of chromosomes. The resulting plants are completely homozygous and can significantly shorten the time required to obtain stable breeding lines. In tomatoes, the effectiveness of this technique is limited and depends on the method used and the genotype.
