Genotype

A genotype is the complete set of genes of a given plant. It serves as its “blueprint” and remains unchanged throughout its entire life. The genotype determines a variety’s potential capabilities, but how those capabilities are expressed depends on environmental conditions. The plant’s observable appearance is the result of the interaction between the genotype and the environment—that is, the phenotype.
