Gene expression

Gene expression is the process by which the information encoded in DNA is used to produce the proteins responsible for the plant’s functioning. Environmental conditions determine which genes are active at any given time. Therefore, the same variety may differ in fruit size, color intensity, or growth rate depending on the weather and cultivation methods. The genes remain the same—only the degree of their activity changes.
