Fusarium Wilt

Fusarium wilt is a general term for diseases caused by fungi of the genus Fusarium. One of the most significant is tomato fusarium wilt, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici. Typical symptoms include yellowing and wilting of older leaves—often initially on one side of the plant—and browning of the vascular bundles. The pathogen produces chlamydospores, which allow it to survive in the soil for many years. Resistant varieties and good crop hygiene are of the utmost importance, while crop rotation can limit the disease but does not quickly eliminate the pathogen from the soil.
