F1 (hybrids of F1)

F1 hybrids are the first generation resulting from a controlled cross between two selected, established parental lines. Thanks to the uniformity of these lines, F1 plants are usually genetically uniform. They may exhibit heterosis—that is, outperform their parents in terms of specific traits—but this does not occur in every cross. Disease resistance results from the selection of parental genes, not from the mere fact that the variety is a hybrid. In the F2 generation, traits become segregated; therefore, nasiona harvested from F1 usually do not faithfully reproduce its characteristics.
