Deterioration of the root system

The root system can be damaged by flooding, drought, soil salinity, soil-borne diseases, or mechanical damage. A deterioration in its condition leads to reduced uptake of water and nutrients, which often manifests as plant wilting despite moist soil. Healthy roots are essential for proper growth and high yields. First, check drainage and the condition of the roots; there is no point in fertilizing a wilting plant until waterlogging or root damage has been ruled out.
