Cotyledons

Cotyledons are the first embryonic leaves visible after nasiona germinates. In tomatoes, the embryo is surrounded by a preserved endosperm, whose reserves are utilized during germination and the seedling’s initial growth. After emergence, the cotyledons develop and carry out photosynthesis until true leaves form. They should not be confused with the first true leaves, which appear later. Healthy cotyledons should not be removed; if they are damaged, the primary concern is to monitor whether the true leaves are developing properly.
