Endosperm

The endosperm is a nutritive tissue found in the seeds of many plants. The tomato has nasiona endosperms: in a mature seed, the preserved endosperm surrounds the embryo and contributes to its nutrition during germination. The portion of the endosperm located above the radicle forms the endosperm cap. Its gradual breakdown allows the radicle to pierce the seed coat and begin growth.
