A highly sought-after Indigo-type variety among collectors, combining striking skin coloration with a red, fleshy, and juicy interior. It produces medium-sized fruit, mostly round to slightly flattened. As they ripen, their base color shifts to red and shades of burgundy, while the shoulders are adorned with an intense, purple-navy bloom, almost black in places.
This dark coloration is due to anthocyanins and is most pronounced on the parts of the fruit exposed to the sun. As a result, individual tomatoes may vary in the extent and intensity of their Indigo color. The flesh remains red, creating a beautiful contrast with the dark skin.
The flavor is distinctly tomato-like, with a pronounced sweetness balanced by a delicate acidity. The meaty yet juicy fruits are excellent for eating fresh, on sandwiches, and in colorful salads.
Blue Tom is a tall-growing variety with unlimited growth that requires support. In our cultivation, it ripens rather late, so it’s worth providing it with a warm, sunny spot and a sufficiently long growing season.
Based on our observations: it closely resembles Indigo Red Beauty, though it differs slightly in plant habit and growth rate. It’s an interesting choice for those who enjoy comparing similar-looking varieties and discovering the subtle differences between them.
