Afternoon Delight is a variety developed by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms. The large, fleshy fruits combine yellow and red hues with purple anthocyanin spots on the sun-exposed parts of the skin. They really show off their best when sliced: the two-toned slices look great on sandwiches and platters.
The plant grows tall, has regular foliage, and requires sturdy support. The fruit ripens in the middle to late part of the season. According to the nursery that received trial material from Gates, the variety originated from an accidental cross between ‘Big Rainbow’ and an unidentified anthocyanin line.
