Lucid Gem—meaning “transparent gem”—is a variety developed by Brad Gates at Wild Boar Farms. The fruit has dark, anthocyanin-rich shoulders, and as it ripens, the rest of the skin changes from yellow to orange. When cut open, yellow and red hues appear, creating a particularly beautiful effect when sliced.
In our cultivation, the fruits reach up to 200 g and have thin skin. They are decorative, and the plants produce a good yield. The dark pigment intensifies in well-lit areas, so when assessing ripeness, it’s also worth observing the lighter part of the fruit and how soft it becomes.
The tall plants require staking. The breeder describes “Lucid Gem” as a sister variety to “Indigo Blue Beauty”—an interesting pairing to try for yourself.
