Fred’s Tie-Dye is a tomato variety developed as part of the Dwarf Tomato Project and introduced to the market in 2015. Selected by Vince Lavallo from his cross between the ‘Dwarf Wild Fred’ and ‘Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye ’ varieties, it features medium- to large-sized fruits with an exceptionally attractive appearance. Ripe fruits are dark pink or purple in color, with distinctive green-and-gold stripes. The flesh is dark red, typical of so-called “black tomatoes,” and the fruits have an intense, rich flavor with a slight hint of acidity.

The plants are dwarf varieties (growing to about 90–120 cm), but despite their small stature, they are very productive. The fruits weigh between 170 and 300 grams, and their full flavor makes them perfect for eating raw, in salads, and for preserves. Fred’s Tie-Dye is a mid-early variety that matures about 75 days after transplanting. Thanks to their compact growth habit, the plants are ideal for growing in pots or smaller garden spaces, requiring only lateral support.

It’s a great choice for gardeners looking for a tomato with a unique appearance and intense flavor.
