Opalka and
Des Andes, which are beloved by our customers. Although each of these varieties has very similar fruit, they differ in plant habit as well as soil and temperature requirements. If the other varieties mentioned did not set fruit evenly in your garden, this one is worth trying. It is a tall plant that requires staking and produces a very abundant harvest. The fruits are red, elongated, with a high dry matter content, and ripen after about 75 days.
Pittman Valley Plum is preserved as a variety of German origin from the Pittman Valley in Pennsylvania. Its elongated shape and small number of seeds correspond to its former, practical use: making thick homemade sauces.
