Dwarf Sweet Sue is a dwarf variety that grows to a height of about 100–140 cm, characterized by potato-like leaves and a compact, bushy growth habit. It was developed as part of the Dwarf Tomato Project and first introduced to the market in 2012. The fruits are medium-sized, round or slightly flattened, weighing between 80 and 200 grams. They have a creamy-yellow skin, and when fully ripe, a pink blush appears at the tip of the fruit on the side opposite the stem. The fruits are sweet, juicy, and have a well-balanced flavor.
Ripening occurs about 80 days after transplanting, making this a mid-late variety. “
Dwarf Sweet Sue” is a very high-yielding variety, ideal for both small gardens and cultivation in large planters. Despite its compact size, it requires support to sustain its abundant yield. It’s an excellent choice for lovers of sweet, yellow tomatoes with a rich flavor.
Craig LeHoullier named Sweet Sue in honor of his wife, Susan. The variety is a cross between Golden Dwarf Champion and Green Giant, developed by Patrina Nuske Small—from the same breeding family as Dwarf Beryl Beauty, which produces green fruit.
