Mavritanskite has warm, dark coloring: its red-orange skin is complemented by brown and purple tones, as well as greenish-brown shoulders. The fleshy, slightly ribbed fruit has a rich flavor with a smoky note. Sliced, they pair well with salads, bread, and bold cheeses.
Collector sources point to Latvia. Adaptive Seeds received seeds from Madeline McKeever of the Irish company Brown Envelope Seeds; this origin is also documented in an Oregon State University field trial report. This is an example of a Baltic variety that has traveled a long way between gardens.
