The
Climbing Trip-L-Crop tomato is one of the most productive and tall-growing varieties. Its plants can reach an impressive height of 3 to 5 meters, which makes it necessary to support them with a trellis or stakes. This variety is distinguished by its production of enormous quantities of fruit—a single plant can yield as much as 5–7 kg of tomatoes per season.
The fruits are very large, weighing between 0.5 and 1 kg; they are fleshy, with an intense red color and a delicate, sweet-and-sour flavor. They are ideal for preserves, such as sauces, as well as for salads and sandwiches, due to their low seed count and juicy flesh.
The plant is a tall variety and matures approximately 80–85 days after transplanting, making it a late-season variety. A warm location and sturdy support help it reach its full potential.
Trip-L-Crop appears in Burgess’s American catalogs from the 1930s. Its impressive growth has long been part of this variety’s reputation among gardeners. The Italian Tree variety available from us has a similarly lush growth habit.
