Janet’s Jewel, created by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms, is a unique beefsteak tomato with large, fleshy fruit that can weigh from 300 to even 500 grams. The fruit is intensely orange with delicate green stripes that change to red-orange streaks as it ripens, giving the fruit a unique, spectacular appearance.
This is a late variety, ripening after about 85-90 days from planting, but it is definitely worth the wait. The plant is tall and grows vigorously, so it requires staking or tying. The fruit is not only beautiful, but also very tasty, with a sweet, fruity flavor with a slight hint of acidity, making it an ideal addition to salads and cold dishes.
The Janet’s Jewel tomato is very productive and does well even in more difficult growing conditions, although it yields particularly well in warm, dry climates.
