A very tasty tomato variety whose shape resembles that of the Opalka variety. The fruits grow in uniform clusters; they are not very large, weighing no more than 100 grams. They are deep red, elongated, with a delicate skin and high dry matter content. Excellent for sauces and purees. The fruits reach maturity approximately 70 days after transplanting. The plant is tall and requires staking or trellising.

San Marzano is part of the Italian tradition of tomatoes grown for sauce. Its elongated fruit and dense flesh help produce a rich flavor and a thick, firm puree.
