Earl Cadenhead of Ohio received seeds labeled “Red Brandywine” in an exchange. However, the plant that grew had potato-like leaves and pink fruit, which he preserved and propagated as “Earl’s Faux.” This is a story of a horticultural surprise, not a confirmed pedigree of a hybrid. The fruit weighs between 300 and 500 grams. It is a deep pink color, has a delicate skin, and a fantastic flavor. These steak-type fruits are perfect for sandwiches and preserves. The fruits reach maturity about 80 days after transplanting. The plant grows tall and requires staking or tying up.
